Finally Udinese throw numbers forward but it’s great covering by Kessie to break up the counter-attack.
Udinese sub: Fernando Llorente, formerly of Swansea and Spurs, replaces Makengo to partner Nestorovski in the visitors’ attack.
Yellow card! Kessie is pulled by cynically by Zeegelaar, who deservedly goes into the book.
Chance for Milan! Musso is called into action once more, scurrying across his line to keep out Kessie’s header!
Milan shot! Meite is teed up by Diaz and his excellent first-time shot from distance is tipped over by Musso!
How are Udinese not ahead?! Romagnoli comes to the rescue of Milan! Pereyra pounces on Hernandez’s loose pass and sets Nestorovski up on a plate with his cross. But Romagnoli is there to make a clearance on the line!
Milan have to move the ball faster if they’re to find a way through this stubborn Udinese side. They will have to remain patient and calm. A victory tonight would be massive. A draw wouldn’t be ideal.
Kick-off! After what feels like an age, Milan finally get things moving in the second-half!
Milan sub: Soualiho Meite replaces Tonali ahead of the second-half. Not sure if that was enforced or if Pioli just fancied a change in personnel.
Half-time: It has been largely one-way traffic but Milan have so far yet to find a way past Udinese as the teams head in for the interval locked at 0-0.
Kessie tries to find Leao with a first-time cross but he doesn’t get his angles quite right. It hasn’t happened for Milan just yet.
Castillejo only has one goal to his name this season – which came against Sampdoria – but he came close to breaking the deadlock here. In fact, that’s the closest Milan have come so far tonight.
Castillejo effort! This is much better and much more direct from Milan, as the Spaniard dances past Nuytinck before driving a low shot at goal. Musso keeps it out with his feet!
This is a bright spell in the game for Udinese, who have let the handbrake off slightly. Molina plays a give-and-go with De Paul, who finds Pereyra on the edge of the box. He shoots but Kjaer is in the way.
De Paul delivers the free-kick to the far post, Arslan heads it across goal but Kessie scrambles it clear for Milan.
Yellow card! Molina finds a pocket of space but Theo Hernandez is immediately on the case. The referee deems that to be a foul and a yellow card.
The ball is spread to Kalulu at right-back, he delivers a teasing cross but Nuytinck gets plenty of power in his clearing header.
Milan continue to ask the questions, Udinese continue to defend resiliently. Bonifazi is well positioned to win the ball from Leao on the left flank.
Yellow card! Rebic inadvertently catches Becao in the face with a leg and goes into the referee’s notepad. It was clearly an accident but that’s a painful one.
Filled with confidence after his winning goal against Fiorentina at the weekend, Nestorovski tries an ambitious effort from distance. Never troubling Donnarumma, though.
The Serie A has been a breath of fresh air this season. Inter face a difficult away trip to Parma tomorrow night, while Juve defeated Spezia 3-0 last night to keep the pressure on the Milan clubs.
Udinese goalkeeper Musso is called into action for the first time this evening, comfortably claiming Diaz’s shot from the edge of the box.
Milan have a penalty appeal waved away after Kessie goes down under pressure from Arslan after a smart turn. You have seen them given, but it would have been soft.
Ibra is going to be a huge miss for Milan. It’s feared he could be absent for up to four games. Can they find a way without the Swede tonight?
Patient football from Milan. They work it from left to right, but then a stray pass. Udinese throw-in.
Udinese have everyone behind the ball as Milan control possession. They won’t be an easy nut to crack.
Milan have settled into the game quickly and force a corner, won by Kalulu. Udinese deal with the first set-piece delivery, Milan win another, which they play short, but comes to nothing.
Kessie picks out Leao inside the box, but he’s closed down quickly and can’t get his shot away. Meanwhile, there’s a concern over De Paul, who appears to have picked up an injury. Udinese can’t afford to lose him.
Here’s a neat attacking move from Udinese, built down the left, but for some bizarre reason Nestorovski tries to play a pass to Pereyra, who is an acre offside.
Leao makes a run to the right flank where he controls Romagnoli’s long ball only to run straight into the challenge of Becao, who wins possession back for the visitors.
The physio checks are over and Kjaer is back on his feet, ready to resume action.
The corner comes to nothing and to make matters worse, Kjaer is down holding his knee and requires treatment.
Udinese make a nervy start, with Molina misplacing a back-pass aimed for his goalkeeper and conceding a corner within 20 seconds.
Kick-off! Right, here we go. This is a very tricky tie for Milan and one they will do well to garner all three points from. But it’s a must-win in their quest for the title.
FIVE minutes until we get moving! It’s AC Milan versus Udinese in Serie A, it’s LIVE and it’s NEXT!
TEN minutes until kick-off! Milan would tighten their grip on a top-four place with victory and it would also ensure they keep the pressure on city rivals Inter, currently four points clear at the top of the table. Udinese, meanwhile, would jump into the top 10 with a win.
Udinese are one of the division’s in-form teams having won three of their last five games to pull clear of the relegation zone. The reversal – played back in November – ended 2-1 to Milan, with Ibra scoring a dramatic late acrobatic winner. This will be another tough test for the Rossoneri.
It is almost two months since Leao scored for Milan, but he has the confidence of his coach. « Up until a few days ago we talked about an improved Leao and inside the game, » Pioli said. « I’m satisfied with Leao, tomorrow he will start from the beginning. From a mental point of view he is ready, he has grown a lot. »
Did you know? Milan have won their last two games against Udinese in Serie A – the Rossoneri could win three consecutive matches against the Friulians in the competition for the first time since 2008.
Ante Rebic stole the headlines, scoring the winner before suffering a hip injury. Big boost for Milan to have the Croatian fit tonight.
Stefano Pioli, AC Milan boss: « Tomorrow will be an important match, Udinese are an organised team that put is under pressure in the first leg. We will need a great performance.”
Former Everton foward Gerard Deulofeu is unavailable for Udinese, who are missing a number of players. They are boosted by the return of ex Watford forward Roberto Pereyra and Marvin Zeegelaar.
With Zlatan Ibrahimovic injured, Rafael Leao spearheads Milan’s attack. Right-back Pierre Kalulu is restored to the team, as is centre-half Alessio Romagnoli, replacing the absent Fikayo Tomori.
