MUMBAI: Uncertainty in the stock market has led to huge selling. As a result the indices suffered the biggest loss in two months on Monday. The Sensex lost 1,145 points to settle at 49,744, down 50,000. This closing index is a three-week low. The Nifty lost 306 points to close at 14,676. Also, both the indices are at the end of five consecutive days of losses. Weak signals in global markets, rising Kovid-19 cases across the country, unpredictable rally in bond yields and other factors have created uncertainties in our market. Shares of all sectors except one metal were widely sold from the beginning of trading. Indices of public sector banks, pharma, IT and media fell 3 per cent on the NSE. Private Bank, FMCG, Finance and Bank Nifty indexes declined by 2%. IT stocks lost the most with the rupee 16 paise rally.
