Ebene Magazine – Disney unveils a real lightsaber on Star Wars Day

Since the premiere of “Star Wars” in 1977, children and adults have wanted to get their hands on a lightsaber. The « elegant weapon for a more civilized age » is one of the most recognizable props in film history and pop culture – and now Disney has apparently created a « real one. »

Disney Parks released a very short clip on Tuesday, May 4th of a seemingly working lightsaber known as Star Wars Day (May 4th is with you. You see?).

The 13-second clip showed a Disney actor who is known as the « Star Wars » hero Rey was in disguise and turning on a lightsaber, with a solid, retractable blade of light that extended from the hilt as in the movie. It’s not a visual effect or a camera trick – it’s as real as a lightsaber can get in this galaxy.

Of course, Disney hasn’t created a lightsaber that can cut off your son’s hand because he refuses to carry you Rule the galaxy.

Rather, the company’s imagineers – designers of Disney’s parks, rides, devices, and hotels – designed the device to work like a real lightsaber by moving the « light blade » away from the base the sword extends out.

The saber is not for sale, at least not yet. But fans will soon be able to see it in action in Disney’s new Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, a stunning Disney hotel that will open in 2022 and allow guests to experience adventures from the lucrative franchise.

“To see How that lightsaber activates right before your eyes is just one of the myriad ways that, from your arrival to the time you depart, immerses you in a Star Wars story, where your choices and actions – or even the casual conversations – take place who may guide you – determine how your personal journey develops, « Disney Parks wrote in a blog post Tuesday.

Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro first presented the saber during last month a closed presentation in front of a small number of reporters.

The functional lightsaber and the “Galactic Starcruiser” experience show how Disney drives its parks through Fahrges In 2019, Disney opened Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, a 14-acre expansion that allows guests to ride the Millennium Falcon and enjoy galactic delicacies like Blue Milk. It’s Disney’s largest park expansion of all time.

Did Disney actually make a « real » lightsaber?

Disney’s parks division is trying to recover from one of the toughest years ever due to the closings and layoffs caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Disneyland, the company’s flagship California-based company, reopened its doors last week after a year-long stoppage.

D’Amaro told CNN Business last month that the future of Disney resorts was « fresh » and « technology-driven » « It will be incredibly relevant to guests around the world, » he said. « These parks change every day. »
