News that senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad has praised Prime Minister Modi has sparked outrage in the party. Sources close to Azad said that in fact he did not praise Modi and misunderstood his remarks. It was revealed that he will give an explanation on this in due course. It is learned that Azad had praised the Prime Minister at a recent function in Jammu. He, however, said that he was learning a lot from many leaders and that he was from a village and was proud of it. Sources close to Azad said that our Prime Minister also belonged to a village, he was a tea seller and he (the Prime Minister) did not hide his previous life even though they were political rivals. Sources said that he did not praise Modi except this. It is noteworthy that on the occasion of Azad’s retirement from the Rajya Sabha, Modi was moved to tears by praising him in Parliament.
Sources close to Azad said he could not comment at present as he was busy compiling a list of party campaigners to be sent to the Election Commission. That is why they say that all the points will be explained in detail at the appropriate time. Party leader Priyanka Gandhi, who is on a visit to Assam, declined to comment on the issue or the differences between senior party leader Anand Sharma and another leader, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury. She said she was currently in a campaign and would get the information after moving to Delhi. Azad, who is also part of the 23 group that has already written an open letter to the party leadership, says there are doubts as to whether there are any fresh ‘blue shadows’ cast on him.
