Another season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the world’s largest T20 cricket league, has arrived. In 2020, the 13th season of IPL was held in the UAE due to coronavirus. The epidemic still persists, but now the tournament has returned to its home. Like every season, there will be a lot of focus on new players once again. In particular, the players who had been bought by the teams at high prices in the last auction will be the most focused on such players. Punjab Kings also spent a lot this time and bought some players by paying huge amount. Australia’s young fast bowler Riley Meredith is also among those who are ready to play in IPL 2021 for the first time. With this, Meredith aims to learn a lot from a world-class bowler like Mohammed Shami.
Meredith did well in Australia’s T20 League, Big Bash, earlier this year. The 24-year-old stormy bowler, playing for Hobart Hurricanes, took 16 wickets in 13 matches. Due to this performance, Meredith, who troubled the batsmen at her own pace, was bought by Punjab for 8 crore rupees in the auction held in February. Punjab will also expect similar performance from them.
Meredith is also excited about playing for the first time in the IPL. The reason for his enthusiasm is also that during this time he will be able to play with many legendary players for about 2 months. The Punjab team already has experienced bowlers like Mohammed Shami and Chris Jordan and Meredith wants to learn from these bowlers. Speaking to news agency ANI, Meredith said about Shami,
« Certainly, Mohammed Shami is an incredible bowler. Not only at the international level, but also in the last few IPL seasons, he has been exceptional and he is getting a lot of wickets. The best thing is that he can do this work at any time in the match, whether in the beginning or in the middle or in the final overs. This is something that everyone wants to do and I would like to read their minds and learn. «
Riley Meredith also described Chris Jordan as an expert on death overs and said that by bowling with him, he will be able to learn some new tricks. He said, « Jordan is probably the best death bowler in franchise cricket right now. » I will definitely try to understand what he does and hopefully I will be able to add some new weapons to my game. ”
The first match of Punjab is on 12 April with Rajasthan Royals. The team made a good comeback in the second half after a poor start in the previous season and came close to the playoffs. However, the team missed the final 4 due to bowling failure. In such a situation, the arrival of a fast bowler like Meredith can give some benefit to the team and it will be able to go one step ahead.
