Two men were shot dead in an alleged frenzied shooting in a suburban block north of Brisbane.
Police were running a manhunt around Brisbane after bullets were reportedly fired in front of the Caboolture townhouse complex at around 5:30 p.m.
Shortly after 8 p.m., it was confirmed that a man in his twenties was detained at Victoria Point, about 50 miles from the scene.
Witnesses told the Sunday Mail that they « couldn’t count » the number of shots they heard.
The two men, believed to be between 20 and 30 years old, were later seen lying bloody and motionless in front of the units on busy Lower King St.
Several witnesses said they saw paramedics perform CPR on both men outside, but they could not be resuscitated and were later pronounced dead at Caboolture Hospital.
A man who would not be named said he saw the two bodies in the driveway.
He said he was visiting his friend in a house behind the apartment block when he heard several loud gunshots.
« I was shocked … I knew immediately it was shooting … It was horrible. »
« After that I didn’t see a second because there were too many people in the way. »
Police and coroners entered the complex and used police tape and tents to cordon off the area and protect the crime scene.
A man in shorts and a t-shirt spoke to the police at the scene and wore forensic blankets over his shoes.
Acting Detective Inspector Michael Hogan confirmed that a man would undergo a full forensic examination at Caboolture Police Station on Saturday night.
« We had information that led us to Victoria Point and a male was taken into custody, » he said.
It was reported on social media that Caboolture Hospital was locked down after the shooting, but authorities have not been able to confirm this.
Residents evacuated from the apartment block were allowed to return late last night.
The residents were brought back to their homes by the police and asked to wear protective clothing on their feet.
Earlier that evening, locals told The Sunday Mail of their horror after the incident.
A married couple who wish to remain nameless and are parents to a 30-year-old man who lives in the same apartment building said they rushed to the scene when they were unable to reach their son on the phone.
« We have a son in his thirties who lives in the middle of the block, and we were worried sick. »
Similarly, another man said his friend, a 30-year-old man, lived in a nearby building and originally feared for his safety after hearing a description of one of the victims.
Another lady, who lives in a house across from the scene, said she saw the suspected shooter jump into a car at 5:15 p.m. and drive away immediately after the shooting.
The woman said the vehicle had headed towards the intersection of King Street and Morayfield Road
