Jamal Murray made the leap to superstar in last year’s playoffs. He won’t have a chance to repeat that.
The Nuggets star suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in his left knee, the team said Tuesday after injuring himself between 116 and 107 in the Nuggets’ defeat against the Warriors on Monday evening would have. Murray, who the Nuggets say will be out « indefinitely, » had to be bailed off after refusing to get into a wheelchair at the last minute.
Murray has had the last four games missed with pain in right knee even though this injury affected the other knee. Murray hit the court in frustration while lying on the ground after falling awkwardly on his leg after a trip to the basket. « Apparently very shabby as of now, » Nuggets coach Mike Malone told reporters after the Game.
The nuggets are 34-20 and the fourth seed in the Western Conference. Denver had played its best basketball of the season after star striker Aaron Gordon was taken over by Magic at close of trade.
But it was 24-year-old Murray who – along with this season’s MVP favorite Nikola Jokic – the driving force behind the team’s run to the Western Conference Finals was in the NBA bubble a season ago.
« You know what he means to us, he’s the guy – Nikola and Jamal, » said striker Michael Porter Jr .. “You have taken this team to new heights. They talk about their closure all the time. We need Jamal … but we are more concerned about his wellbeing right now as he is individual than the team. The team is currently an afterthought. “
