Ebene Magazine – Lil Wayne pays homage to DMX and remembers her Cash Money / Ruff Ryders tour

During his Trillerfest performance, Lil Wayne took a moment to pay his respects to fellow artist and former tour mate DMX.

Weezy remembered and mentioned her Cash Money / Ruff Ryders tour in 2000 that it was “impossible not to be obsessed, to be in love, to be impressed, whatever” with X. “When I was a younger kid we were touring a lot, right. Like six months a year. We used to have so many artists that we didn’t need an opening act because we just needed another record label and it was just us and them, ”he began. « So we went on this tour back then called The Cash Money / Ruff Ryders Tour. See, since you’re from New Orleans, it’s so far from New York and Cali and it’s not. We didn’t know if it was real when we saw it on TV, the New Yorkers, the LA folks. When we saw DMX, we all fell in love. «

Tunechi continued, » But when I went on tour with him and Now you’re in the hotel lobby, you’re backstage, you hit a * gga and he actually says something to you and when you see this n * gga talk the way he raps and you see this n * gga that’s what he is, and you see this N * Gga has zillions of dogs with him, then zillions of dogs with him. It’s impossible not to be obsessed, in love, impressed, whatever.  »

DMX was put to rest in late April 2021 with a livestream memorial service and a private memorial service with only close friends and relatives. The New York Senate also announced that December 18th – the late artist’s birthday – will officially be known as « Earl DMX Simmons Day ».

Elsewhere in the music, Flying Lotus shared the official Yasuke soundtrack with Denzel Curry, Thundercat and Niki Randa.
