« All of us at CBS are extremely grateful for the incredible work and dedication of Lucas and the rest of the cast, as well as Monica, the writers and the entire crew, » said Kelly Kahl, president of CBS Entertainment, in a statement at deadline. “The MacGyver team traveled far and wide trying to save the world repeatedly with little more than chewing gum and a paper clip, and clearly made this show their own. We’re excited to give this dedicated and loyal fan base the opportunity to say goodbye to their favorite characters in the thoughtful way this series deserves. «
So far this season, MacGyver has an average of 4.8 million viewers and a demo rating of just over 0.5 (in Live Same Day numbers) – 22 percent less than Season 4. Of the 14 original dramas that CBS aired this TV season, it ranks 1-9 in the demo and 10th in the total audience.
MacGyver had a tumultuous year off-screen, last summer because of CBS’s relationship with EP Peter M. Lenkov The end of creating a toxic work environment. Two weeks later, Till announced that he had suffered numerous verbal abuse, bullying, and body embarrassment cases while working with Lenkov. « I’ve never worked so hard in my life, and I’m good at hard work, « Till told Vanity Fair. » But the way Peter treats people is just unacceptable. I was suicidal that first year on the show because he felt that way. But how he treated the people around me – that’s just my breaking point. «
In an Instagram post that followed Tuesday’s cancellation messages, Till wrote: » The last five years have been what I’ll see later as the most formative years of my life. Much tough, lots of love. I have Made lifelong friends, not really a family. I learned to push myself to new limits and break through and through and through. Was nervous to take on the mantle of an icon and you let me into your homes and accepted me. Thanks With your support, I am now like Roger Moore from MacGyvers. «
This is the third high profile resignation from CBS this year after the previously announced death of NCIS: New Orleans and Mom. The network is preparing new offshoots from NCIS and FBI as well as the return of CSI before.
