Although Muslim Congress leader Rauf Hakeem attended a dinner hosted by visiting Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, members of parliament from that party and leaders of several political parties were reportedly not present.
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa hosted a dinner at Allari Palace on Tuesday. The business community, including leaders of political parties, ministers, Muslim MPs from the ruling party, and Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena were invited to attend the event.
Former President Maithripala Sirisena, former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa, TNA leader R. Sampanthan and M. A. Sumanthiran MP, participated.
However, Ishaq Rahman of the United People’s Power, and MS Tawfiq of the Muslim Congress, Haris, Faisal Qasim, Saneer Ahmed, and SMM of the All Ceylon Muslim People’s Congress. Musharraf did not attend the event.
Meanwhile, JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake and other party MPs were not present at the event.
Muslim political leaders and prominent Muslim businessmen who attended the banquet were reported to have told the Prime Minister of Pakistan that he was the most powerful Muslim leader in Asia.
