Wellington: This year’s T20 World Cup will be held in India in October-November. Carona is already on the lookout for this competition. Against this backdrop, New Zealand head coach Gary Stead has made an important statement. New Zealand will tour India with a 20-member squad for the tournament, he said.
Gary Steady said the game is undergoing a number of changes as the crisis of Covid-19 still persists. India will host the T20 World Cup later this year. The New Zealand team is expected to have 20 players in the tournament. This will help to take care of all the players. Young players will also get a chance. Meanwhile, 15-16 players are being sent to the team for any tournament.
Stade said having 20 players in a potential squad could also give a chance to players who have not played T20 matches internationally. Also, a five-match T20 series between Australia and New Zealand starts on Monday. The Australian players have done well in the Big Bash tournament. This has boosted the morale of the Australian team. He expressed confidence that New Zealand would definitely win the tournament.
Meanwhile, India is hosting the T20 World Cup for the second time. Earlier in 2016, the tournament was successfully held in India. The West Indies then clinched the title. The West Indies have won the trophy twice in the last six T20 World Cups. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and England have each done so once. However, New Zealand have yet to reach the final.
