Ebene Magazine - Not even half of last year: Revenue is low in Sabarimala ml

Pathanamthitta: With just days to go before the end of Makaravilakku festival, there is a huge decline in revenue in Sabarimala. It is estimated that Kovid has drastically reduced the revenue of Sabarimala. Devaswom estimates that the income during the Mandala-Makaravilak period was Rs. 16,30,66,246. The revenue during Makaravilakku was 6 crore 33 lakhs. Last year’s revenue was Rs 60 crore. The decline in revenue will significantly affect next year’s activity. Devaswom Board President N Vasu said the government had provided Rs 70 crore in six months.

This year’s revenue is only six per cent higher than last year. As a result, other temples under the Devaswom will also face financial crisis. The 5000 people who will come to Sabarimala tomorrow can stay in Sannidhanam till Makara Jyoti is over. The proposal to open the walk for more days for Masapooja is being considered. Tantri and others will be consulted in this regard.

So far 132673 people have visited Sabarimala. The Devaswom Board has incurred a loss of Rs 500 crore since March, said Devaswom Board President N Vasu. Despite the criticism, the Devaswom Board President said that the Sabarimala pilgrimage during the Kovid period was a complete success. Some of the employees were affected by Kovid but there was no major threat due to precise interventions. Compared to the last Makaravilakku season, the revenue was less than Rs 54 crore this time.

However, the Devaswom president said that the Sabarimala pilgrimage was not for profit and loss and that he would seek other means, including seeking the help of the government, to find revenue. He made the announcement after meeting the media at Sannidhanam on the eve of Makaravilakku tomorrow.
