An American newspaper named the possible cause of the crash of a passenger Boeing 737 in Indonesia. This is a failure in the system that controls the operation of the engines. The crew knew about the malfunction and wanted to fix it, writes The Wall Street Journal, citing data from a preliminary investigation.
The decoding of the flight recorder recording the flight parameters showed that the pilots faced a technical failure – an autothrottle on one of the engines failed. In this case, the crew violated the instructions. Instead of shutting down the power plant, the pilots tried to restore its functioning.
Recall that a Boeing 737 belonging to the local airline Sriwijaya Air fell into the sea near Jakarta on January 9. The liner was in the air for only four minutes. The pilots did not report technical problems on board to controllers. The disaster killed 62 people.
