Director Selvaraghavan’s long-pending film Nenjam Marappathillai was slated to hit the theatres on March 5. However, the Madras High Court on Tuesday (March 2) has put a stay on the film’s release, based on a plea filed by M/s Radiance Media Pvt Ltd. Nenjam Marappathillai has been lying on the shelves for over four years now due to financial issues.

The case against Nenjam Marappathillai was heard by Justice PT Asha on March 2. Radiance Media Pvt Ltd pointed out that Escape Artists Motion Pictures (one of the producers of Nenjam Marappathillai) was planning to release the film without settling the loan they received during the release of Dhanush’s Enai Noki Paatum Thota.

Hence, the petitioner sought the Court’s help to stay the release of the film till the production house pays the remaining money with the interest amount. This is yet another blow for the Nenjam Marappathillai team who have been waiting for more than four years for the film’s release.

The shooting of Nenjam Marappathillai began in January 2016 and was wrapped up in June that year. However, the film, directed by Selvaraghavan, had to face several roadblocks in the last four years.

On February 8, 2021, the makers announced the film’s new release date to be March 5. Selvaraghavan took to Twitter and wrote, « Thank you all for your patience. #NenjamMarappathillai from March 5 in theatres (sic). »

The horror film features SJ Suryah, Regina Cassandra and Nandita Sweta in lead roles. The film has music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
