A big decision can come on Maratha reservation on Wednesday 5 May. According to news agency ANI, the Supreme Court will give its verdict on Maratha reservation on 5 May. Earlier, the Supreme Court had heard all the petitions challenging the constitutional validity of Maratha reservation. But the decision was reserved.
Under this Maratha law, there is a provision for giving Maratha quota for admission in jobs and educational institutions in Maharashtra. Which was banned by the Supreme Court during the hearing.
Let us know that if the Supreme Court gives its verdict on Maratha reservation tomorrow, then it will be very important for Maharashtra and the politics there. Because this issue has been an important part of the politics of Maharashtra for the last several years.
In fact, Marathas are the majority in Maharashtra, hence there was a demand for reservation from all the ruling parties here. The Marathas also organized many big movements for this. Finally, in November 2018, the Socially and Educationally Backward Classes Act 2018 was passed in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. Under this, there was a provision for giving 16 percent reservation to Marathas in government jobs and educational institutions in Maharashtra, but after that the reservation in Maharashtra went above the Supreme Court’s 50 percent limit.
After this, the government’s decision was challenged in the Bombay High Court. The petition said that this decision of the government violates the decision of the Supreme Court in the Indira Sawhney case. However, the Bombay High Court had pronounced the decision in favor of the government and said that states can give more than 50 percent reservation under special circumstances. After this decision of the High Court was challenged in the Supreme Court. On which now the Supreme Court can give a big and historical decision.
