After having a surprise interview with the inexperienced Josh McCown last week, the Houston Texans appear to be moving forward and establishing finalists for their position as head coach.
The Texans are expected to request a second interview with Kansas City Chiefs Offensive Coordinator Eric Bieniemy and Buffalo Bills Defensive Coordinator Leslie Frazier after their teams face off in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday, according to ESPN. </ "Both candidates believe they have a legitimate chance of being hired," and have begun assembling coaching staffs in case they are hired, "ESPN's Adam Schefter wrote on Sunday, citing sources.
Incoming GM Nick Caserio has already had a second interview with former Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell about the position, the final manager opening in the league during this recruitment cycle. Colt’s defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus and Baltimore Ravens deputy head coach David Culley also have one Interview with the Texans.
Frazier already has experience as head coach at the Minnes ota Vikings (2010-13), while Bieniemy is considered a top contender and has been bypassed for several open positions in recent years.
Texas quarterback Deshaun Watson was reportedly unhappy that he was not contributing to the team’s attitudes outside of it of the season, and the three-time Pro Bowler is said to have identified the Jets and the Miami Dolphins as his two top trading targets, the Miami Herald reported on Saturday.
Watson has neither publicly requested a trade, « according to the NFL Network the Texans showed an interest in trading him by sources « .
