Ebene Magazine - The journey to the wild planet is interrupted in Stadia, and Google has broken up the developer who could have fixed the problem

Update: Google has now released an update aimed at fixing a fatal bug affecting Journey To The Savage Planet. More on this below.

Journey To The Savage Planet landed on Google Stadia last month, but unfortunately it came with a groundbreaking bug that makes it unplayable. It’s a pretty serious problem that you would think the developers were going to be working on it ASAP. However, Google is in the process of moving these developers into new roles within the company after they closed their studios earlier this month, and now nobody seems to know who to work on a fix.

The trip to Savage Planet was made by Typhon Studios, which were purchased by Google in 2019. Unfortunately, the studio was closed when Google closed its internal studios a few weeks ago, which affected around 150 workplaces. However, Google tells us that « most » of these developers will take on new roles within the company.

In stadiums, some players will not be able to play the game at all as it will freeze when they try to select an option from the main menu. Looking for a solution to this problem, Reddit user « lordubuntu » contacted both Google and the publisher of Journey To The Savage Planet, 505 Games, who both seemed to be pointing fingers to say, « This is. » their problem « .

Stadia support said they should contact 505. However, 505 said that all of the game code and data for Stadia was owned by Google, so there was nothing they could do. According to 505 support, Google acted as the publisher for the game on Stadia as they owned Typhoon Studios. So Google was the only one who could really solve the problem.

A comment on Lordubuntu’s thread from a Stadia community manager who wrote, « I understand how frustrating this situation is and I am sorry for the delayed update. We are actively working with our partners to find a solution, and I’ll do it.  » I do my best to pass on updates.  »

A similar response on Stadia’s Twitter is that they are working on a fix with their « partner publisher ». I wonder who they mean by that, though. If 505 didn’t work on the Stadia version, could it be them?

I hope there is a solution for players who enjoyed the game in Stadia. Our review of Journey To The Savage Planet said it was a fun little space game, and it would be a shame if one of the few games Stadia has remained unplayable.

Update: A Google representative emailed us that the issues affecting Journey To The Savage have now been resolved. In an update to a Reddit post on the issues, Google said, « This issue should be resolved now. Thanks again for your patience. Please let us know if the problem persists. »

The representative also told us with that « the studios that make up Stadia Games & Entertainment (like Typhoon Studios for Journey To The Savage Planet) are still busy for now. »

« As mentioned in our first announcement on February 1st, most of the SG&E team will take on new roles in the coming months. » This is how this patch was created. « I’ve adjusted the article to reflect this.
