MG recently unveiled a new electric concept car called the MG Cyberster in Shanghai. The concept car is a very sporty-looking two-seater roadster with a futuristic design inside and out. Most will recognize the MG name for making some very interesting and very small roadsters that are now considered classic vehicles.

The Cyberster is a two-door, two-door, fully electric sports car designed to blur the lines between traditional mobility and e-sports entertainment. That’s an odd crossover for sure, but one look at the design of the exterior and interior of the car and anyone can see that it looks like something out of a video game. The car uses so-called « Magic Eye » headlights, which are supposed to be reminiscent of the round headlights that are part of the iconic design of its classic roadsters. Since the vehicle is fully electric, it doesn’t need a grill, but one that has evolved into an aerodynamic channel leading to the front wheels.

The interior is heavily stylized and definitely looks like something suitable for a concept car. It has an interior called « Digital Fiber », whose design theme should be driver-oriented and whose cockpit designs are separated from each other on the left and right. The instrument panel is a large LED with a second central screen on which all operating elements are controlled by touch.

While touch controls look good on a concept car, in the real world most people prefer real buttons and buttons because they can be used by touching instead of looking at the screen. The Cyberster concept uses an updated version of self-powered battery technology that promises a range of 800 kilometers per charge. MG also promises that the vehicle will be very fast and reach 100 km / h in less than three seconds from a standstill.

The autonomous technology is integrated into the Cyberster and supports level 3 autonomous driving as well as the possibility to be actively updated as soon as new functions are available. The wireless updates use 5G connectivity. It is currently unclear whether MG plans to bring the Cyberster into production.
