Jürgen Klopp has confirmed that Mohamed Salah has carried out a negative coronavirus test and will continue training with Liverpool on Monday.

The Egyptian missed the Reds 3-0 win against Leicester on Sunday evening after testing positive for Covid-19 during the international break.

But Klopp announced after the game that Salah could return to the Champions League against Atalanta on Wednesday evening. The 28-year-old is set to join the Liverpool squad, which will go through a round of UEFA testing on Monday.

Klopp said: « I heard that. A negative today. I think he’s pretty normal on all tests from now on.

“Tomorrow [Monday] we have UEFA Champions League tests and I’m pretty sure he will be there. He can now train with us tomorrow.

“Could there be Premier League testing the next day? Yes, there are two tests in the next two days so he will be tested like all of us. ”

The news will give the Reds boss a significant boost, who put Naby Keita on a growing injury list on Sunday. Keita lasted just 53 minutes against Leicester before suffering from a thigh problem being judged in Kirkby.

Liverpool could do without Xherdan Shaqiri in the upcoming games, as the Swiss star has discovered a problem in international action.

Klopp said: “Naby felt his Achilles tendon and couldn’t continue playing, otherwise he would have stayed on the pitch.

« Shaq had a muscle injury for the national team that he didn’t really realize. He trained with us and after that he felt it a little. We did a scan and they found he had an injury after five or six days.

« Nobody knew about it, not even Shaq, so he couldn’t be involved. ”

After a dominant performance against Leicester, Liverpool improved tied with Premier League leaders Tottenham. This means that the Reds set a new club record of 64 unbeaten home division games.

« It’s amazing, but all about the guys, » said Klopp. “It’s really difficult to achieve something like that, but considering how close a lot of games were, the guys had to get used to it and they did.

« We really enjoy playing here, it’s our floor, our home and everything feels like home even when people aren’t here – which is absolutely crazy or bulls ** t, whatever the right word is is.

“The guys on the court are amazing in terms of performance and that’s the only reason for the number. It’s difficult to set records at this club because obviously our fathers and grandfathers were pretty good.

« I’m happy for the players, but it doesn’t feel like that right now because we’re playing on Wednesday! »
