Desperate Britons have rushed to stock up on ’emergency wine’ and book haircuts, it has been announced that Boris Johnson is expected to announce a second nationwide lockdown next week

Social media users joked about having to grow their hair out under the new restrictions, while others shared memes about their mental health

Last night, a Cabinet source told the Mail that the dramatic decision to bring the whole country back to tighter coronavirus restrictions will be announced next week

And it didn’t take long for Twitter users to produce memes lamenting the government’s decision

Last night, a Cabinet source told the Mail that the dramatic move would be announced next week

It was not clear exactly what form the new lock would take, what the closing order would be or how long it would last

The government now faces a critical weekend to determine the form of measures ahead of an announcement

Prime Minister and Chancellor Rishi Sunak are reportedly concerned about the move, fearing that it will leave the economy in tatters

Boris Johnson is expected to announce a nationwide lockdown next week after his science advisers told him it was the only way to save Christmas

But scientists – backed by Health Secretary Matt Hancock and Senior Minister Michael Gove – told them the virus was set to kill 85,000 people this winter and that it was too late for a se – saying « circuit cut »

They called for a longer national lockdown – similar to the month-long shutdown in France – saying it was the only way to stop hospitals from running out of beds

In a clear signal of the government’s deep division on the issue, a Cabinet source said opponents of a lockdown were ‘not ready to surrender’

Details of the lockdown feud emerged after the Mail revealed how the Prime Minister was notified by scientists – led by Chief Medical Officer Professor Chris Whitty and Chief Science Advisor Sir Patrick Vallance – that all hospitals in England will be full by December 17 unless he takes no more action
