“I’m delighted to finally bring this production to Australian audiences,” said Armfield “It’s an opera of beauty and joy and it’s all about reconciliation and magic. We think it’s the perfect work to cheer us up and remind us of the beauty of the world, the beauty of the imagination and the beauty of the theater “

Armfield is no stranger to Britten’s operas having previously performed acclaimed productions by Billy Budd, Peter Grimes and opera’s ghost story, The Turn of the Screw, all for Opera Australia. staging in 2009 of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, originally a co-production between the Houston Grand Opera, the Canadian Opera Company of Toronto and the Lyric Opera of Chicago, has already received mixed reviews, although US critics tend to be conservative in their tastes

While interstate travel is generally expected to return to some extent by 2021, South Australia’s regional audiences to Mount Gambier, Port Pirie, Renmark and Whyalla will have the opportunity to capture A Midsummer Night’s Dream via streaming services, and up to 3,000 will be able to view it at Elder Park where it will appear on the big screen with tickets for as low as $ 29

“Not only is it great to talk about opening art festivals, but to have a production that gives local artists the opportunity to perform alongside some of the best opera singers in the world is really exciting, ”said South Australia Prime Minister Steven Marshall “I am also happy that the regional audience of South Australia has the opportunity to see this masterpiece, with performances being broadcast live in four regional centers.”

A Midsummer Night’s Dream will perform at the Adelaide Festival Theater from Friday February 26 to Wednesday March 3 The full 2021 Adelaide Festival will be announced on Thursday November 19
