EbeneNews – AU – Exiting Boyd Says Broncos Will Bounce Back

Even rival coach Josh Hannay felt for Brisbane after the once mighty Broncos collected their first NRL wooden spoon in the club’s 32-year history

But Broncos’ big departure Darius Boyd is confident the six prime ministers can bounce back and play in the finals next year

Brisbane’s sad 2020 came to an end happily when they were first relegated to death in a 32-16 loss to North Queensland at Suncorp Stadium

The positives were hard to come by after Brisbane ended a year of horror that included a club record 11 straight losses, their most defeats in a season (17), their most points conceded (624), their lowest points total of the season (268) and their worst points differential (-356)

“They are our fiercest rival but this year I have witnessed the torrent of abuse that has taken place,” he said

“And after being consigned to the wooden spoon, there is going to be a new wave of abuse and criticism

“They are considered the evil empire in the eyes of a lot of people, but I look at what they went through this year and I really feel for them – I hope their rebound will be quick”

Boyd was convinced it would be after watching talent in the Broncos’ locker room rather than the NRL ladder on Thursday night

Citing youngsters Herbie Farnworth, Xavier Coates and Jordan Riki, Boyd firmly believed the future for the Broncos was bright

“In my opinion, having a new coach, a new system, the boys are putting this year behind them, come out of the bubble and if they regroup and cool off and have a very strong preseason with a state of ‘defensive spirit I think this group can easily get into the top eight next year, “he said

Former Broncos captain and current Queensland mentor Walters was interviewed for the Brisbane 2021 concert on Thursday with former Cowboys mentor Paul Green

“Kevvie has been around for a long time, his track record speaks for itself as a player and assistant, I know he hasn’t had a head coach job but I think the fans will support Kevvie

“At the end of the day, you have to get results – it’s up to them (Broncos)”

Despite Boyd’s optimism, Brisbane will start 2021 behind the eighth ball after a makeshift five-eighth and NSW Origin hopeful Kotoni Staggs suffered an alleged ACL knee injury
