EbeneNews – AU – ‘It’s hectic’: where Melbourne shoppers flooded within a 25km radius

On the first day of the 5km radius extension under relaxed COVID restrictions, Melburnians flocked to hairdressers and supermarkets

COSTCO in Docklands had dozens of cars in the bank as shoppers piled up and left carts overloaded

A man told 7NEWS he took a day off to go to COSTCO to buy toilet paper and items for his children

« It’s hectic There are a lot of people, » said another woman after leaving the crowded store

After 11 weeks of closure, hairdressers were also happy to be busy with huge queues winding around malls and on the streets

« We’ve obviously lost thousands and thousands of dollars so being open now is just great, » said Steve Burley of Kingsman Barbers

On Sunday morning, the Victorian Prime Minister revealed the much-anticipated next steps for Melbourne out of the severe Stage 4 coronavirus lockdown

« Good news for those measuring scissors or cautiously considering a trendy haircut – hairdressers will be able to open, with strict security protocols in place, » the prime minister said

The ban on hairdressers was lifted at 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday and some opened as soon as the clocks hit midnight

“This was exciting news for the hair industry For us, we spent all day setting up the salon,” said Joey Scandizzo of Joey Scandizzo Salon in Toorak
