EbeneNews – GB – Kate Garraway clashes with restaurateur over circuit breaker plans

Kate Garraway clashed with a London restaurateur on Good Morning Britain, as they discussed potential plans for a new lockout breaker

A potential circuit breaker could be set up across the UK, which would shut down bars, pubs and restaurants again, in a bid to try to control the spread of the coronavirus as the number of cases continues to rise increase

Andy Jones, a town restaurateur, joined hosts Kate Garraway and Ranvir Singh to discuss the possibility of a circuit breaker, but was seen in conflict with Kate as he claimed the government was’ blaming  » the hospitality sector for the spread of Covid-19

In a passionate speech, he appealed to the government and said: “Let’s talk, we went through every jump, every hoop, we did everything that was asked of us and we were played all the time

“The 10pm curfew has destroyed so many jobs and so much income When are we going to stop being blamed for everything that happened?”

He stressed that the closure of hospitality establishments was not « sustainable » and would put enormous financial pressure on those working in the sector

As Jones claimed that he did not see a peak in coronavirus cases in July when pubs, bars and restaurants were allowed to reopen, Kate intervened and assured him no one was putting the ‘blame’ on the hotel industry

She explained that the peaks can take « two weeks or more » to be detected, as she fired back, « Andy, I know you want to champion your cause, but let me tell you what people are saying about it.

« First of all, it takes two weeks or more There is evidence You are not blamed but there is evidence «

Kate continued, “The goal is to reduce the number of places where people mix and unfortunately and I feel so sorry for the hospitality industry… but the hospitality industry is operating in a situation where people need to mingle «

Professor Susan Michie, who had also joined the debate, called for a national breaker for up to three weeks and said: ‘We are going to have to restrict contact between us well beyond what we did for Date «

Dr Amir Khan agrees, adding that he can « fully understand why a circuit breaker is needed »

« I echo what the experts say, we need to use this time efficiently to get the tracking and tracing up and running, » he told Kate

A circuit breaker would effectively go into place for a period of up to two or three weeks and impose a ban on mixing different households, encourage people to work from home if possible, and shut down many businesses in the hospitality industry. , including pubs , bars and restaurants

This would see the country enter a temporary national lockdown during the midterm hiatus in an attempt to take control of the spread of the virus and help put the UK’s tracking and tracing system back on track

There are currently over 700,000 confirmed cases of the coronavirus across the UK, with the death toll now reaching over 43,600
