About 940. 000 Crock-Pot 6-Quart Express Crock Multicookers are sold in the United States. S.. . and Canada have been recalled over a risk of burns, with around 100 serious burn injuries reported to date to the U. . S.. . The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said in a statement Thursday.
Sunbeam Products, the manufacturer, received 119 reports of the lid peeling off, resulting in 99 injuries ranging in severity from first to third degree burns.
CPSC warned, « The recalled crock-pot multicooker may be pressurized if the lid is not fully locked. This can cause the lid to suddenly come off during use of the product and burn consumers from hot food and liquids expelled from the product. «
Customers are encouraged to contact the company for a free replacement lid and « use the recalled crock-pot in pressure cooker mode immediately » while still allowing the product to be used for slow cooking and frying.
« Consumers who continue to use the multicooker in pressure cooker mode while waiting for the replacement lid should ensure that the lid is securely rotated to the fully locked position by aligning the arrow on the lid with the lock symbol on the base. « CPSC said.
Around 914. 430 of the multi-cookers were sold in the USA. S.. . In Canada around 28. 330 pieces sold.
The product was sold at Walmart, Target, and other retail stores across the country, as well as Amazon and other online retailers, from July 2017 through November 2020, at prices ranging from $ 70 to $ 100.
The model number of this recalled product (SCCPPC600-V1) is located on a label on the bottom of the device.
« The multi-cookers were made between 1. July 2017 and 1. Manufactured October 2018 with date codes K196JN through K365JN and L001JN through L273JN. The date code is engraved on one of the prongs of the electrical connector and on the underside of the base, « advised the CPSC.
